Everyone struggles with disappointment or discouragement in life at some point in time. But what do you do when it morphs into depression that is arresting and debilitating, perhaps to the point of wanting to take your own life? Author, speaker, song-writer and professional vocalist Tim Kaufman shares his story of how a person who battles depression can find answers to (1) why a person has depression to begin with and (2) how to manage and, for most, to overcome, at least to the point of being “happy enough.” After giving a general overview of depression…the “what, why, and who” of depression, Tim takes the risk of self-exposure and transparency to tell a story he describes as “embarrassing but necessary” if others are going to be helped, especially in the church. Free of typical “church-isms” of over simplified quick fixes, the book takes an honest look at what depression is like but is also very practical regarding concrete steps to take such as how to find the right counselor, “Who do I battle besides myself?”, and the always controversial subject of anti-depression medication. The important aspect of community is discussed with practical suggestions on where to find like-minded people who are going through similar experiences. Join Tim as he leads you on a journey, exploring family of origin issues, self-sabotage, facing personal failure, disappointment with God, and the long road back to emotional health. This book is for someone, or knows someone, who wants to hope again.

I should disclose that Tim Kaufman is a friend of mine, but that in itself is a reason that I would only recommend his book to others if I felt it to be honest and helpful. Tim is a wonderful singer and worship leader, a true man of God. When he leads a choir, he doesn't just strive for musical excellence. Before and after practice he ministers from the Word about God's endless mercy and greatness. I have been personally touched by his ministry. It was hard for me to read this amazingly, gut-wrenchingly transparent account and feel the pain that someone I've come to know and love as a friend and brother has gone through. In spite of that, I am so glad to have read it. His book gave me insight into my own past bouts with serious depression and the struggle that others I care for go through on a daily basis. Most importantly, it gives hope for anyone still going through this battle that God is faithful and with the help of caring counselors and medical practitioners you will again "sing Hallelujah" and mean it!Product details

Singing Hallelujah When You Feel Like Hell Tim Kaufman 9781945975141 Books Reviews
As a Follower of Christ and a Nurse Practitioner I have always wanted to hear from those with spiritual and personal insight on complex infirmaties of the mind. Growing up in a family with a heavy history of mental ill health, I have often asked God for His insight on how to pray for, relate to, and think rightly about mental health.
I am thankful for the multiple dimensions addressed regarding depression in this book.
I have already loaned out my copy of the book, as well as sent a copy to a family member.
While this is not my specific struggle, I am impacted by mental health issues in my personal life as well as professional life.
Thank you Tim & Alicia for allowing God to use you in the midst of the storm so that others might be blessed by your testimony.
I highly recommend this book to those dealing with mental health issues directly or indirectly.
Enjoying the book very much. Thank you!
We have known Tim since his college days and had no idea of how hard his struggles were . We praise Him and God for being able to be so transparent about a disease and/or struggle that so many Christians face today and his testimony of hope for them too . We also knew Ellie Jenkins and agree these testimonies need to be shared so others will not be afraid or ashamed to seek professional help and help from the Body of Believers . Great job Tim . I've bought 3 copies so far and maybe more to come.
